Congratulations to Ultimate NJ 2020 player Maddie Schrader who has committed to Marist College! A talented midfielder, Maddie is the third Schrader to play for Ultimate Lacrosse and will join siblings Ryan (Salisbury 2020) and Sabrina (High Point 2021) as a college lacrosse player.
"As soon as I walked onto the Marist campus, it just felt right. The overall atmosphere and vibe of the program was something I could see myself being a part of right away,” explained Schrader. “The coaches are so amazing and we meshed well from the start. I'm so beyond excited to be part of Red Fox Nation!”
“None of this would be possible without Ultimate Lacrosse. My Ultimate coaches have taught me valuable lessons on and off the field and I can't thank them enough for helping me grow not only as a player but as a person. I’ve made some of my closest friends through Ultimate and I know these friendships will last a lifetime. I am extremely grateful for everything that Ultimate Lacrosse has given me and I can't wait for my final summer season!"
“Maddie is a triple-threat athlete all over the field,” explained Ultimate Lacrosse coach Brittany Ballack. “She is a versatile midfielder who knows how to take the draw, play hard between the restraining lines, and be a scoring asset. Every time she steps on the field Maddie brings great energy and willingness to learn. An all around team player, Maddie is a great teammate and really exemplifies what it means to be a hard worker. Maddie will thrive at Marist, congratulations!”
A three-sport athlete at Hopewell Valley Central High School, Maddie plays soccer, basketball, and lacrosse at the varsity level and is a starter on each team. But lacrosse is her passion! The midfielder capitalizes on her athleticism and is a threat all over the field, whether it’s in the draw circle, playing defense, or setting up a teammate for the perfect shot. As a sophomore at Hopewell Valley Schrader was named 2018 Offensive Player of the Year, won the Team Player Award, and was also listed as one of NJ.com’s Top 75 NJ Lacrosse Sophomores. In addition to her successes with Hopewell and with Ultimate, Schrader also participated in the WPLL Futures program. Off the field Schrader is running to represent her grade as Student Council Secretary.
Marist is coming off of a successful 2018 season. The Red Foxes went 6-2 in MAAC play, earning the #1 seed in the conference championship and a share of the MAAC regular season championship title. The 2018 Marist squad had the 23rd best free position percentage in the nation (.465) and the 24th best scoring defense. Marist Head Coach Jessica Wilkinson has been at the helm for the Red Foxes since 2010 and has earned a 70-70 overall record and a 36-22 conference record.
Congratulations, Maddie! We look forward to seeing you shine at Marist!
