Kemether to Play Both Lacrosse and Basketball for the Swarthmore Phoenixes

Congratulations to NJ 2019 player Katee Kemether! The goalie from Hopewell Valley Central High School has officially committed to Swarthmore College. A talented lacrosse goalie and basketball player, Kemether will play both sports for the Swarthmore Phoenixes.

“Katee's energy for the game is contagious,” explained Ultimate Lacrosse Coach Marisa Deangelis. “Every time she steps on the field she’s always looking for ways to improve her game. Her ability to communicate directly with the defense exemplifies her strong leadership on the field.”

A standout member of three varsity teams (tennis, basketball, and lacrosse), Kemether is a well-rounded player that brings athleticism, confidence, and enthusiasm to the cage. On the basketball court 5’10” Kemether is a versatile player, equally comfortable scoring from inside the key or outside of the arc. On the lacrosse field the righty keeper was named to the Second Team All-Conference as a sophomore, turning away 137 shots while only allowing 139 goals. During her junior season Kemether was named an All-Conference honorable mention. In addition to athletics Kemether is also involved in several student groups. Kemether serves as the president of her school’s chapter of Girl Up Club, an organization that raises money and awareness for girls across the world in impoverished countries. Outside of her involvement with Girl Up Club, Kemether plans to travel to Kenya with the Global Connections Club and is involved with Spectrum. A standout student, Kemether holds a 3.91 GPA while taking multiple AP classes (Calculus, History, Physics). Kemether hopes to one day become an orthodontist.

“I’m so excited for my next four years at Swarthmore because it is the perfect school for me,” explained Kemether. “Swarthmore has a beautiful campus with outstanding resources and opportunities that will allow me to maximize my learning and college experience. I’m also thrilled to join two great programs under amazing coaching staffs, and surrounded by such hard-working and kind individuals.”

A highly-competitive academic institute, Swarthmore plays in the Centennial Conference. The Phoenixes finished the 2018 season with a 10-6 record, including a thrilling 14-13 OT win over Lebanon Valley College. Two of Swarthmore’s 2018 losses came in tight one goal games, showing that the team has promise for an even more successful season this year. And with Kemether in net for their 2020 season the Phoenixes will be a force to be reckoned with. We look forward to cheering Katee and the Phoenixes on!
