Ultimate Lacrosse NJ 2020 midfielder Ellie Vogel has officially committed to Georgetown University. A top academic and athletic institute, Georgetown competes in the BIG EAST Conference.
“We are super excited for Ellie to have the opportunity to play at Georgetown University,” explained Ultimate Lacrosse Founder and CEO Michele DeJuliis. “It’s has been a dream of hers and now it is a reality. Ellie is a strong, tough, smart player that is a major connector through the midfield. She has excellent stick handling abilities and can run the field and be a major factor on both ends while doing her job between the 30s. A true teammate, she has a winning mentality and is a pleasure to be around.”
Vogel will be an impact player for the Hoyas. A talented draw taker and midfielder, Vogel is a quintessential team player. Currently a junior at The Lawrenceville School, Vogel is already a three-year member of the Lawrenceville varsity team, playing a key role in their 2017 and 2018 Mid-Atlantic Prep League Championships. Ellie has shown that she can play on a big stage, taking part in the WPLL Futures Tournament (2018), the Under Armour 150 (2017), and the US Lacrosse National Tournament (2017).
“I am fortunate to have the opportunity to continue my academic studies and pursue my passion for playing lacrosse at Georgetown University,” explained Vogel. “The rigorous academics and Jesuit community that focuses on the development of the whole person appeal to me. It is exciting to join the positive team culture fostered by Coach Fried and to surround myself with high level players that share my passion for the game. Not only are Coach Fried, Coach Williams and Coach Etrasco experts of the game, but they are also so much fun to be around. I look forward to working hard and continuing to grow as a person and as a player on the Hilltop. Hoya Saxa!”
Vogel is excited to explore Georgetown’s many academic offerings, especially those in the religion and science departments. At Georgetown she will play for Head Coach Ricky Fried. In addition to coaching at Georgetown for 14 seasons, Fried is also the former Head Coach of the US Women’s National Team, leading Team USA to World Cup Championships in 2013 and 2017. Under Fried, Georgetown has earned seven BIG EAST regular season titles, made six trips to the BIG EAST Championship Game, winning in 2010, and has advanced to the NCAA Tournament seven times, reaching the quarterfinals twice. Georgetown’s coaching staff also includes Assistant Coach Danielle Etrasco, who won a World Cup with Team USA in 2013, and Gussie Johns, who won a World Cup with Team USA in 2017. Both Etrasco and Johns currently plays professionally for the Women’s Professional Lacrosse League’s Philadelphia Fire.
Vogel will join former Lawrencville and Ultimate standout Annabelle Albert, who is currently a freshman at Georgetown.
